Location: Easten Express Highway Mankhurd Junction
A couple of weeks ago just to ease the flow in diversion of traffic towards flyover at Amar Mahal (Chembur) & Mankhurd, parallel baby flyovers constructed on either of sides the main flyover were thrown open with service roads available on respective sides of these baby flyovers. Even if we just for a min. ignore the tacky quality & finishing of these baby flyover, which we shouldnt as our hard earned money is been wasted on it, the basic purpose for construction of these baby flyovers is not being served at all.
For instance, keeping in mind that there are 3 options on either side viz. the major flyover, baby flyover & service road; the sensible, congestion avoiding & strict tarffic management should have been as follows:
1. The major flyover: To allow flow of traffic heading towards Chembur.
2. The baby flyovers: To divert the flow of traffic towards Mankhurd or Vikhroli, as applicable. Considering the size and amount of traffic using the baby flyover , it should have been of atleast 4 lanes instead of the present 2 lanes. Which is commonly used by traffic coming from Chembur side and Mankhurd side and hence is too narrow.
3. The service roads: To divert only the LMV traffic wanting to enter or exit Ghatkopar through the road connecting to the tunnel passages below the above mentioned flyovers.
The Fact Case as on today:
Traffic heading towards Eastern suburbs like Vikhroli, Mulund etc. coming from Town onwards, because of 2 lane narrow passage of the baby flyover, is compelled to use the road by the side of the baby flyover, which in turn blocks the flow of traffic exiting and entering Gahtkopar via respective tunnel passages.
For traffic coming from suburbs touching EEH heading towards Mankhurd or Town; because the service road, connecting to the tunnel passage for entering Ghatkopar, is been blocked by illegal parking allowed and neglected by respective authorities. The traffic wanting to reach Ghatkopar, via U-turn from the signal below the Major flyover, is forced to use the 2 lane baby flyover. In turn creating unnecessary and avoidable obstruction in flow of traffic towards Mankhurd. .
Also the traffic heading towards Mankhurd through the said baby flyover haphazardly obstructs the traffic heading towards Town which exited from Ghatkopar via the tunnel passage.
In the present time of so called scarcity of fuel, litres of fuel is unnecessarily wasted, just because of negligent and pathetic management of traffic by some illiterates who have been given the respectable uniform at our cost and their salary being taxed to us.
No accident is reported as yet, but to know how haphazard it is, you need to just experience it.
And to Note: Atleast 4 RTO's, standing at Chedda Nagar corner of the Junction, meant for vigilance and traffic management, are all the time Standing with their respective vehicles doing everything else, including tearing challans, but their Duty. Every mentioned location is well within the possible eyesight limit of any human being.
Such is our consistently pathetic Basic Traffic Management. The above is just one to mention.
To mention another one, just a week or so back one of the leading daily reported that, after spending ten crore or so the plan of partly constructed Suman Nagar flyover is considered to being scrapped. That to after making one of the local societies to surrender its plot in lieu of the flyover.
Why was it Planned? Who Planned it? Was the Need survey done? Who gave the permission to commence? How was the contract awarded? Who gave the necessary clearances? Who allotted funds? Where were the funds sourced from? How many times was the Plan reviewed & updated? Why sudden consideration to cancel it? Who will pay for the money already spent? etc... innumerable Q's.
All of the above mentioned in the name of Infrastructure Spending, done at exhorbitant costs. Just because we are not asking for the A/c. of money spent on such Infrastructure, the source of which is unexplainable taxes & tolls levied on us.
Is it not enOugh
